Start with the local office
Use Clemson's official county directory to confirm the current Horry County contact. Explain that the pilot is being designed and ask who can advise on community gardening and practical horticulture education.
Ask for education and a referral
Describe the proposed community and 90-day scope. Ask about appropriate learning resources, garden feasibility, soil testing, seasonal planting, water-wise practices, and whether any relevant educational program is available.
Understand the volunteer program
Clemson's Master Gardener program focuses on public horticulture education. Ask its coordinator about appropriate educational opportunities and requirements; do not assume it provides a yard-maintenance labor pool or guaranteed volunteers.
Bring a short packet
Share the mission and pilot brief, a proposed site description if authorized, a list of questions, and the decisions still open. Avoid resident case details, photographs, or private requests.
